Edinburgh Seven Summits ran this weekend and was a great success.  Organiser Ross Donald of Edinburgh Network gives us a report of the event...

They came from far and wide (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee, Gordon, Fife, Inverness, Preston and even Greater London South West!) and all to complete one challenge – climb the Seven Summits of Edinburgh.

The camp was first organised in homage to the Scottish Scouts Seven Summits Project.  Keith Armour, who will be climbing Everest in April 2007, even popped his head in on the Friday to hello.

The groups set of on Saturday morning hoping that the weather would stay dry.  The first 3 hills (Craiglockhart Hill, Braid Hill and Blackford Hill) were all climbed in the morning before the groups headed into then city centre for lunch.  Castle Rock was climbed whilst in the city centre and Historic Scotland kindly let us in for free to reach the top of the hill.

Corstorphine Hill was next (but luckily the number 26 bus takes you half way up!)

Calton Hill then followed with a great opportunity to get photos taken amongst the various monuments such as the Folly and Nelson’s Tower.  Finally all 3 groups met up in Holyrood park to climb the last (and highest) summit together – Arthur’s Seat.  It was a struggle to get to the top after the other 6 hills but we held a small celebration by taking photos and singing a campfire song or two.

Dinner was pub grub in the Crags followed by a few drinks in a couple of different bars.  Most people caught the last bus back to Bonaly before continuing the singing around an actual fire.

The Seven Summits was a bit more of a challenge than some realised but everyone seemed thrilled/happy/content/relieved when they completed it!  Badges were presented on the Sunday morning before everyone headed on their way.

Edinburgh Network would like to thank all those who attended for making it a fantastic, funny and fun weekend!
